Kia pakari tonu ai Staying resilient
We can be proud of the mahi we’ve done to keep whānau safe. Let’s keep our game up and help Aotearoa stay strong.
He tiaki i te whānau tā tātau mahi Protecting whānau is what we do
KOWHEORI-19 is still here. Māori have responded with aroha and kaha to keep our whānau safe, kia haumaru te whānau.
Te whakaako i te pūnaha awhikiri Training our immune system
Like aunty and niece practicing mau rākau, we need to keep our immune system trained up to recognise and fight the virus. The KOWHEORI-19 vax is still our best defence. The protection is even stronger with a booster dose.
Mai rā anō, ka haumaru tātau i te whānau.
As we have always done, we protect our whānau.
Kia matatū Being vigilant
KOWHEORI-19 is still in our communities. It’s important that we stay matatū. Here are some simple things we can do to protect ourselves and whānau.
- Wear a face mask in health care places like the doctor, pharmacies, hospitals and aged residential care centres.
- Stay up-to-date with KOWHEORI-19 vaccinations.
- Get your booster. Anyone aged 30+ and immunocompromised whānau can get two boosters.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly. This includes things you touch often, like door handles, light switches and phones.
- Open windows to increase fresh air flow inside.
- If you are sick, stay home and get tested for KOWHEORI-19.
- If you test positive for COVID-19 and are concerned about your hauora, call your doctor, or Healthline on 0800 28 29 26. Don’t try to tough it out if you get seriously ill.
- You can still choose to wear a mask whenever you want to, especially around our kaumātua, māuiui and immunocompromised whānau.
Some whānau members now have access to free COVID-19 antiviral medicine. You may be eligible if you:
- are Māori aged 50 and over
- have a severely weakened immune system
- have three or more health conditions that put you at higher risk of getting seriously māuiui from COVID-19
- are living at the same whare as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and you have symptoms.
You can find more information about antiviral medicine and eligibility on our Antiviral medicine page.
COVID-19 vaccinations and tests are available across the motu. You can use our online map tool to find a kaupapa Māori clinic near you.
